Dear Reader
As the holiday season approaches, many of us feel the familiar tug-of-war between joy and overwhelm. The endless to-do lists, the packed schedules, and the pressure to make everything perfect can sometimes overshadow the magic this season is meant to bring. But what if we could approach the holidays differently this year?
I'd love to share a few simple strategies that have transformed my approach to time this holiday season, helping me find more peace and presence amid the festive chaos:
Make Room for Your Joy First.
Schedule your favorite holiday activities first instead of getting lost in the obligations. Whether it's a cozy morning with your favorite holiday playlist, an afternoon of baking those traditional family recipes, or a winter walk to admire the decorations – anchoring your schedule with activities that truly light you up can help maintain your holiday spirit through the busy times.
Nurture Your Connections.
The holidays aren't just about checking off tasks – they're about strengthening the bonds that matter most. Consider turning routine holiday preparations into opportunities for connection. Invite a friend for a shopping date, organize a virtual cozy Christmas movie with far-away family, or spend an evening crafting holiday cards while catching up with loved ones.
Build in Breathing Room.
Permit yourself to pause. Whether you start your day with a quiet cup of coffee, take an evening to unplug completely, or schedule regular "nothing days" in your pajamas, these intentional breaks aren't selfish—they're essential. They're the quiet moments that allow you to recharge and fully appreciate the season's special moments.
Remember, when we approach the holidays with intention and self-care, we're not just creating a calmer season for ourselves – we're setting the tone for everyone around us. Let's make this holiday season one where joy and peace take center stage.
Wishing you warm moments of connection and calm in the weeks ahead,
XOXO,
DeShawn
