Procrastination, mundane tasks, and our language we use to "get it done"

Hello, Reader,

I'm officially still on hiatus this month dreaming, reimagining, and designing but mundane stuff still happens and I needed a reminder about procrastination and agency this week and thought you may want in on it, too!

Mundane tasks often feel like burdens weighing us down and lead to procrastination. However, a recent discussion with my Time Tamers Coaching Group illuminated a transformative shift I call moving "From Time Pressure to Time Choice." This core mindset-shift emphasizes our personal agency—our ability to shape our daily experiences through the choices we make. By reframing our obligations and recognizing that we can choose where to direct our time and energy, we can unlock a new perspective that leverages our sense of empowerment.

If you're facing procrastination this week, it may help to think of time differently by trying a little experiment with yourself, choosing one of these questions and applying it to your day. What do you really have to loose?

How can I reframe my relationship with time?

Instead of saying “I don’t have enough time,” how might I express that “I choose how to spend my time” change my perception of the day, today?

What if I broke my day into chunks dedicated to specific tasks?

How can focusing on one chunk at a time change my perception of my to-do list today?

Could I create time buffers in my schedule?

How might scheduling short breaks between tasks help me take a breath and feel less rushed instead of diving back in and hitting it hard again and again? Has bringing relentless energy worked for me in the past?

What does my ideal day even look like?

If I were to visualize how I want to spend my work day to show up such as peacefully, joyfully, or slightly amused, how does that clarity of intention influence my choices today?

Reply back to me and let me know if you tried any of these "little experiments" as you put procrastination in it's place by empowering your agency over the mundane in your life,

DeShawn
