Selfish or Self-Aware? The Question That Changed Everything

Here's something I've noticed after years of working with different kinds of thinkers:

The same people who can't follow mainstream productivity systems often don't follow mainstream life scripts either.

Not because something is wrong with them.

Because they're wired for authenticity — not conformity.

In my early 30s something shifted when I started getting curious about my choices.

I looked around at what people my age wanted — marriage, children, the expected milestones — and realized honestly and quietly that I didn't want those things. At least not then. Maybe not ever.

That realization felt a little selfish at first.

My friends were building 'normal' lives and I was — what exactly? Pursuing my masters. Competing in bodybuilding competitions. Building friendships and experiences on my own terms.

Looking back, it took real courage to give myself permission to be something different.

Not better. Not worse. Just genuinely myself.

That was THE turning point. Not a productivity hack. Not a new system. Just the honest admission that my path looked different from everyone else's — and that was not only okay but actually the next right step for me.

That single act of self-permission changed everything. 😊

Once I became aware of the importance of authentic living for myself, the only way forward was through being more intentional.

And intention isn't about having everything planned. It's about making conscious choices aligned with who you actually are rather than who the world expects you to be.

For those of us with uniquely wired brains that distinction matters enormously.

Productivity systems assume everyone processes time, tasks, and priorities identically. They don't account for the brain that hyper-focuses brilliantly on Tuesday and struggles to start anything on Wednesday.

I find this also holds in our life scripts.

They assume everyone's timeline looks identical. Same milestones. Same sequence. Same destination. 😊

Most people I work with have spent years trying to fix what's wrong with them.

Very few have spent equivalent time understanding what's genuinely right.

Your strengths aren't always obvious because they often don't look like 'normal' strengths. They show up sideways. In unexpected moments. In things that feel effortless to you but mystify everyone else.

What do people consistently ask your help with?

What comes naturally to you that others find genuinely difficult?

When do you feel most like yourself?

Your answers aren't random. They could be a map. 😊

So what happened when I started trusting my own path?

I had a conversation with my parents and had them declare me an official old maid...and my life started feeling freer.

I accepted my title happily — because I knew the difference between being lost and having clarity on what you want from life.

Then, when love of my life eventually arrived. I was open to a blind date - that I initially I said 'no' to six times. 😅

Still one of the best decisions I ever made.

The most powerful shift I see in clients isn't finding a right productivity system.

It's giving them permission to be authentic about their own path rather than apologetic about it.

A final question worth sitting with right now:

What's the one thing you've been afraid to want because it looked different from everyone around you?

Giving yourself permission to live differently — intentionally, authentically, unapologetically — isn't selfish.

It could be the most important thing you ever do. 😊
